Gentle Touch Massage Therapy Ltd. is a single-therapist practice run by Angela Myers, RMT, here in Stony Plain, Alberta. We only collect the personal information we need to book your appointments, treat you safely, and run the parts of this website that require a sign-in. This page lays out what we collect, why, and what you can do about it. We handle personal information in keeping with Alberta's Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA).

What we collect

• When you sign in or book. We use "Sign in with Google," so Google passes us your name and email address. We never see or store a password.
• Your appointments. The service you book, the date and time, and any notes tied to the visit.
• Your health history. If you fill out the new-client form, we collect your contact details and a health history — conditions, medications, injuries, pregnancy, and the like — so Angela can treat you safely. This is sensitive information and we treat it that way.
• Messages. If you use the contact form, we keep your name, email, and what you wrote so we can reply.
• Payment. You pay in person at the studio through our card terminal (Helcim). Your card number is handled by Helcim — we don't store it on this website.

The website also sets a small sign-in cookie to keep you logged in, and runs a spam check (Cloudflare Turnstile) on its forms. We don't use advertising or cross-site tracking.

Why we collect it

To schedule and provide your treatment, send you confirmations and reminders, keep accurate treatment records, bill your insurer when you ask us to, and meet the record-keeping obligations that come with being a registered massage therapist.

Your consent

By booking with us or using these forms, you're consenting to what's described here. You can withdraw your consent by letting us know, though depending on what you withdraw, we may no longer be able to treat you or keep your appointment. With health information in particular, we rely on what you choose to tell us.

Who we share it with, and where it's kept

We don't sell your information, and we don't share it except to run the practice:

• Service providers. Google (sign-in, and the calendar Angela schedules from), Cloudflare (which hosts the website and its database), and our email provider (for confirmations and reminders).
• Insurers and benefit plans, only when you ask us to bill them directly.
• When the law requires it.

Some of those providers store or process information on servers outside Canada, including in the United States, where privacy laws are different from ours. We use them because they're reliable and secure, and we mention it here so you know.

How long we keep records

Treatment records are kept for at least 10 years after your last visit. For anyone under 18, we keep them for at least 10 years after they turn 18. That follows the record-keeping standard for massage therapy in Canada. After that, records are securely destroyed. Other information (like contact-form messages) we keep only as long as we reasonably need it.

How we protect it

Access is limited to Angela and to Spencer, who looks after the technical side. The booking and client data sits behind sign-in and access controls, and information is encrypted while it travels to and from the website. No system is perfect, but we take reasonable steps to keep your information safe.

Your rights

Under PIPA you can ask us what personal information we hold about you, get a copy, ask us to correct it, or ask how we've handled it. Just get in touch using the details below and we'll help. If you're ever not satisfied with how we've dealt with your information, you can contact the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Alberta.

If we change how we handle your information, we'll update this page and the date at the top.
